Strong round for Penola

13C

Penola’s 13C teams travelled to Goroke on Saturday morning with the girls buzzing with excitement.

Kim’s 13C team had strong passes and great movement down the court throughout the game.

The girls in defence worked tirelessly to create several turnovers.

Ruby Gartner was the best player for the game thanks to her positive talk on the ring and driving down the court.

Kirsty’s team continues to improve each week and the players are always willing to listen and learn.

Tilly Gibs was best on court for doing all the things the team set out to do at the start of the game.

13B

PENOLA 14 d BORDER DISTRICTS 10

Penola had a slow start in the 13B contest which allowed Border Districts to get the early jump.

However, the Penola girls were praised for their ability to change their mindsets and adjust their play after the quarter time break.

The blue and white Eagles then began to soar as they finished the last three quarters strongly to claim a four-goal win.

Indi Devlin and Leah Wilson were the best players for Penola.

13A

PENOLA 39 d BORDER DISTRICTS 35

After a week off, the girls were eager to get back on the court on Saturday.

The away side put Border Districts under pressure early with a 13-6 first quarter.

From there, it was a much more even contest but Penola maintained a healthy buffer at each break abd held on to claim a four-goal win.

Penola’s defensive players in Makenna Williams, Harper Braun and Poppy Flint stepped up, adapted well and applied strong pressure throughout the contest.

In the mid court, Emma Gosse and Winnie Zadow created beautiful space which led to impressive flow into the Penola goalies, Lily Hackwill and Lani Manarangi.

Hackwill had another solid game and led the way with 30 goals for the contest.

It was a solid all-round team performance from the Eagles as they worked well together as a team and every player put in 100 percent for the full four quarters.

Williams and Manarangi were the best players for Penola.

Division 3

PENOLA 37 d BORDER DISTRICTS 14

After a difficult start to the season, Penola’s Division 3 side claimed its first win of the season in Round 4 of Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara netball.

The Eagles were boosted by girls who filled in to help them seal a very impressive 23-goal win.

Penola applied defensive pressure across the court and then worked the ball effectively into the attack.

Their talk across the court improved and the Eagles backed each other up well.

Haylee Moulton and Kira Pitt were best players for Penola with the former scoring a handy 21 goals for the game.

Division 2

BORDER DISTRICTS 76 d PENOLA 19

The Penola girls suffered a difficult defeat to the ladder-leading Border Districts Eagles on Saturday.

The hosts showed their class as they won every quarter.

However, despite the score line, Penola’s players continued to give their all right up until the final whistle.

Macey O’Brien and Nellie Lear were the best players for Penola for their continuous runs and drive to the ball.

Division 1

PENOLA 40 d BORDER DISTRICTS 31

Penola’s Division 1 side made it two wins on the trot thanks to a solid performance on the road.

The Eagles started strongly and displayed some impressive ball movement which was led by Tess Porter and Holly Flint as the visitors took a seven-goal lead at the first change.

Some strong defence by Heidi Berkin, Phoebe Manarangi and Stella O’Brien held up against Border Districts in the second quarter.

This was supported by equally good movement and shooting in the circle by Ivy Wurst and Tegan Lythgo down the other end of the court which helped Penola extend its lead to 14.

The second half was a lot harder for Penola as Border Districts made a few changes to the line up and managed to reduce Penola’s ability to score with some really good defensive pressure.

However, it was not all doom and gloom with some great decision making and passing by Ella Skeer and a couple of really good intercepts by Flint helped Penola close the game out.

Skeer and Ivy Wurst were the best players for Penola.

C Grade

PENOLA 67 d BORDER DISTRICTS 32

Penola came out firing with a strong lead in the first quarter, having a few goals to get to and new things to put in practice.

It was all one-way traffic in the second quarter as Penola out-scored the hosts by 19 goals.

The Eagles’ movement in the circle was clean which allowed some excellent passes to be put in.

Defensively, Stella had a massive impact on the game to shut down one of Border Districts’ key drivers.

Squish and Lucy Catlin worked tirelessly to be up by 34 at half time.

The goals coasted for the remainder of the game which meant the Eagles had some time to work on small individual skills.

Eva Manarangi and Leticia Gosse were the best players for Penola.

B Grade

PENOLA 53 d BORDER DISTRICTS 37

Penola’s B Graders knew they would be in for a tough task when they made the trek to Goroke.

The Eagles started a little rocky with a game more physical than anticipated and allowed Borders to take a first quarter lead by one goal.

However, Penola came back in the second quarter determined to play their own netball and settled well.

With a few turnovers and success in the goal ring, the visitors managed to take back the lead in the second quarter.

The girls fought hard all game to extend the lead and came away with a comfortable 16-goal win.

Jess Blackmore and Caitlin Eason were the best players for the Eagles.

A Reserves

PENOLA 54 d BORDER DISTRICTS 34

It was a slow start for the Eagles in A Reserves with nothing to separate the two teams at quarter-time.

However, in the second half of the second quarter, Penola began to find its mojo and the girls got on a roll to take a five-goal lead at the main break.

The Eagles made a small change at half time and the third quarter saw them play a really controlled free-flowing game of netball which opened things up and allowed them to score easily.

After an arm-wrestle in the first half, the third quarter was a polar opposite, as Penola outscored Border Districts by 16 goals.

The last quarter was a more even affair but the girls finished with a solid 20-goal win.

Hannah Klemm backed up her strong performance filling in for the A Grade game and was named in the best players alongside Sally Skeer.
