Big field for monthly medal

A BIG field of 53 women played in two competitions last Wednesday at the Mount Gambier Golf Club, in cool conditions with little wind.

The monthly medal, sponsored by PJ Pumps, attracted 46 of those players, with the remaining seven played a stableford round.

The winner was Jill Johnson (30 handicap) with 71 points and even splits of 51/50 for 101.

Her best hole was on the 12th with a par.

Close behind in Division 1, Diann Norman (23) took the honours with 72 points from splits of 47/48 for a total of 95.

Norman had pars on the second, sixth and 18th holes.

The runner-up was Kate Mc Cormick (23) with 95 from splits of 46/49, with a birdie on the third hole and pars on holes one and 17.

While Johnson took out first place, the runner-up in Division 2 was Sue Ryan (30) with 106 from splits of 55/51 for 76 points, which included a par on the first hole.

The pro-shot on the eighth hole went to Sue Coulter, while the long drive second shot for A Grade was Rab Hedlam, B Grade Lizzie Clements and C Grade Johnson.

The ball run-down included 12 women, from Heather Teakle on 74 points to Deb Fowler on 78.

In the stableford competition Gail Watson was the winner with 34 points ahead of Linley Gray on 32.

In the putting competition Vicki Clark was the standout with 29 putts.

On Saturday 22 women played in the Wesfarmers Federation Insurance par round.

Jennifer Van Rijthoven claimed the honours on 2-up, ahead of Helen Mc Intyre on zero.

The pro-shot on the eighth hole went to Janina Morrison and nearest the pin on the 16th to Van Rijthoven.
