THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its monthly competition on Saturday with a field of dedicated shooters braving the sweltering heat and wind to obtain some high scores.
The opening event was a 25-target Double Barrel Championship which was shot with enthusiasm.
Wayne Hawker claimed the AA Grade win with a perfect 25/25, while Warren Lindner settled for second with 24/25.
Another narrow win was secured by Ken Atkin who scored 39/40 to outshoot Ted Bond’s 38/40 and top the A Grade field.
In B Grade Scott Fleming was in fine form with a perfect 25/25 to win over Ralph Larkings on 24/25, while Mick Rudd shot 25/27 to edge out John McIntyre (24/27) for the C Grade win.
A 25-target Pointscore event was was up next which showcased some exceptional shooting.
Jamie Dunn shot 74/75 to win AA Grade from Don Pratt with 72/75, while Atkin’s 70/75 was enough to claim the A Grade honours from Matt Robinson on 68/75.
Andrew McKinnon was in fine form with a score of 72/75 securing the B Grade win from Brian Spring (69/75) and Rudd shot 67/75 to narrowly win C Grade from Reece Fleming (66/75).
The day concluded with a 25-pair Club Double Rise Championship which once again required shoot offs to decide placings.
After a shoot out Tom Jenkins won the overall honours with 52/60.
Gavin Height narrowly won AA Grade with 40/50, followed by Pratt (39/50), while Jenkins shot 43/50 to win A Grade from Hawker on 42/50.
Greg Kessegian’s 43/50 topped the scoresheets in B Grade, with Andrew Hoare runner-up on 41/50.
After a shoot off Nicola Dunn (47/60) bested McKinnon (46/60) for the C Grade victory.
Also on the day the Black Crow Club gained another recipient in Kessegian.
The high gun award for the top score over the three events went to Jamie Dunn with a solid total score of 137/150.
The club has practice every Friday afternoon and the next competition will be sporting clays held on Sunday, March 31.
