A whopping 14 meter mural has been completed at Kalangadoo Primary School bringing a bit more mindfulness and colour to the campus.

With input from every student, the mural was painted by artist and former Kalangadoo Primary School student Wendy Dixon-Whiley.

Principal Alison Whibley said the mindful monsters included in the artworks were representative of each student and their personality.

“It’s a celebration of the students themselves, but also the work we’ve been doing,” she said.

“The mural is a representation of all the artwork that we’ve been doing as a school community on wellbeing and mental health.”

Ms Whibley said it was great to see the mural finished and see the enjoyment people were getting out of it.

“It’s something eye catching, something kids can engage with, something to life their mood when they’re out in the yard and something that people can enjoy,” she said.

“We have a few people who walk through the site, so it gives them a focus point.”

She said the students had loved the experience and were happy to show off their work.

“They were very excited about it, they showed me all their pictures they’d done and their mindfulness statements,” she said.

Ms Whibley said she was thankful for the Kalangadoo community’s, and Crowies, support in of project.

“We have had lots of donations, which has been fantastic and helped us be able to put it into place,” she said.

The principal said the mindful monsters would be a once off exercise, but they were looking forward to creating more artwork on the grounds.

“We have some plans to put our school values up as an artwork somewhere around the site,” she said.

“We also have plans to create a walking the seasons calendar to put that up as a mural somewhere on the site to connect with the wetlands we have.”
