Experiencing Penola

Teodora Tautkute, from Lithuania, and Florance Hopkins, from New Zealand with host Shelley Crawford.

Penola became the home away from home for two exchange students recently.

Taking part in the Lion’s Exchange program were Teodora Tautkute, from Lithuania, and Florance Hopkins, from New Zealand.

For Teodora, this is not her first time on a Lions Exchange, having been to Mexico last year.

“I chose Australia as my first destination because it’s pretty far away from where I’m from,” she said.

“If II get a chance to go somewhere that far away, I take it.”

She arrived on June 30 in Adelaide, where she spent a few days before travelling to Penola, where she stayed with the Crawford family.

In Lithuania, Teodora is a student, having just completed year 11.

On her return to her home country, she will spend three weeks with her family and friends before she packs her bags again to head to Italy to study, as she has received a scholarship.

She is hoping to study law in the future.

Also taking part in the exchange program is Florance Hopkins.

“I found out about youth exchanges halfway through last year – I didn’t even know they were still going because my aunt did one.

“Then we found out I was coming to Oz – we thought that would be a good one to start, just across the ditch.”

Florance was seen cooking up a storm at the Penola Driver Reviver launch recently.

The pair received Penola Lions Club banners to take back home.
