Well wishes from Penola Lions

The Penola Lions Club has formally placed a plaque on its fundraising well to commemorate 100 years of Lions in Australia.

IN celebration of the 75th anniversary of the charter of the first Lions Club in Australia – which was celebrated last year – the Penola Lions Club formally placed a plaque on its fundraising well to commemorate.

An arch was also built and installed by the Penola Mens’ Shed.

The Penola Lions Club was chartered in September 1965 with the wishing well installed in the town park during the late 1960s.

It was constructed by members of the club and is now used as a memorial to Penola Lions Club members who died whilst still a member.

A plaque on the rim of the well also states all money collected is used for cancer research and treatment.

The well gathers about $120 per year in coins with the club typically rounding it up to the next 100 and donate to the Lions Cancer Research program.

Since its installation, the well has amounted to more than $10,000 for cancer research.
