Penola’s A Grade Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Netball Association premiership defence has struggled to click into gear this season as they suffered their second loss of their campaign after just the two rounds.

Naracoorte were too strong for the Eagles as they claimed their first win of the season.

Penola entered the game expecting a difficult task as they were without a number of key players due to injuries, illness and a wedding.

The Eagles managed to field a side as Sally Skeer and Karly Honner stepped up from the A reserves.

Penola had a promising start, but Naracoorte were equal to the challenge and pounced on every mistake by the away side.

The Demons capitalised on every mistake to take a five-goal lead at the first break.

Naracoorte continued to put the visitors to the sword as they extended their lead to eight by halftime.

Maddy Teakle and Chloe Long kept the away side in the game with their defensive pressure and rebounding.

Penola threatened to pull off a comeback as they reduced Naracoorte’s lead to just five goals by the end of the third quarter.

However, a centre-pass turnover to begin the fourth quarter brought the Eagles’ momentum to a halt.

The home side were too strong as they went on to claim a nine-goal win.
