Penola A Grade with strong performance

A GRADE: PENOLA 58 D NARACOORTE 38

AFTER a tough first round of Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara netball, Penola came out eager for a win against Naracoorte.

The game started neck and neck, with both teams finding their feet and settling into the contest.

Penola was able to get hands to some ball and convert a few turnovers to finish the first quarter with a three-goal lead.

Hannah Klemm and Riley Buckingham got some great touches in the second quarter, but some unforced errors allowed Naracoorte to stay within eight goals at half time.

The second half saw some smooth transitions down court from Siobhan Adams and Ashley Merrett and some strong movement from the Penola goalies.

It also saw Georgia Robbie make some excellent space and Tegan Lythgo shoot 24 from 28.

Down the other end Naracoorte goalies were making some great space with effective holds, but the Eagles were able to win rebounds and get some clean pick offs to stretch out the lead.

The Demons defence stayed consistent throughout the game and they continued to make Penola work hard to score, but the Eagles were able to finish off with a 20-goal win.

Best players for Penola were Buckingham and Lythgo.

B GRADE: PENOLA 49 D NARACOORTE 46

Penola welcomed Toneya and Caitlin Carraill to the club this week to play their first game in the blue and white.

The Eagles settled into the game well with a new starting line up, but Naracoorte fought back and had the lead at quarter time.

In the second quarter Penola regained the lead, with Kirsty Hackwell taking lots of turnover ball and Teegan Galpin shooting accurately.

The second half saw plenty of changes across the board, but the girls did not miss a beat and kept control of the game for a close win.

Jessica Blackmore and Hackwell were named best for Penola.

C GRADE: PENOLA 56 D NARACOORTE 34

The Penola C Grade girls had a solid day against naracoorte.

They worked hard in the middle, with plenty of pressure over the ball.

Each quarter started a bit unsettled, but they slowly worked into rhythm.

In th eend it was a solid victory with plenty still to work on.

Best players were Aimee Lepley and Stella O’Brien.

DIVISION 1: NARACOORTE 52 D PENOLA 26

In warm conditions at Naracoorte, the Eagles looked for their first win.

However, it was not their day as the Demons took advantage of every turnover.

Positive patches of play, despite multiple changes across the game, show promise for the new side.

Matilda Marlow had multiple intercepts in defence to take home best player and Haylee Moulton shot accurately to also be named in the best.

13 AND UNDER A: PENOLA 28 D/W NARACOORTE 28

The 13 and Under girls had a lot of fight in them to recover from last week’s game.

Warm up was a lot more settled and they were ready to go.

Lilly Flint was a strong runner in the middle, with Sophie Pearce and Ruby Hackwell working at each goal end.

Bonnie Skeer and Skye Wooding proved major contributors to our game and were named best players.

13 AND UNDER B: NARACOORTE 31 D PENOLA 14

The girls started out firing against the tall Naracoorte side.

Quick passages of play along with strong defensive pressure helped them enter quarter time with a one-goal lead.

Clever passes into attack helped Naracoorte fight back and go into half time with the scores level.

Penola continued to fight back in the last half, but began to get tired and Naracoorte used this as an advantage to finish the game with a 17-goal win.

Ruby Gartner and Lola Tilby were named best.

13 AND UNDER C: PENOLA V NARACOORTE

This week the girls worked on their defence at training and it was great to see all the girls putting into play what we practiced.

The girls were a little crowded at times, but drove well to the ball.

There were some great passages of play in attack.

Best players went to Tess and Elizabeth for their defensive efforts throughout the game.
